Mount Meru (4,566 m) rises inside Arusha National Park. It is a beautiful, less crowded mountain: you walk past giraffes and buffalo, climb through montane forest and moorland, and reach the crater rim with its ash cone below.

You sleep in mountain huts — no camping gear needed — and an armed park ranger walks with you. Meru is a superb climb on its own, and perfect acclimatisation before Kilimanjaro.

  • Wildlife walking in Arusha National Park
  • Sunrise views of Kilimanjaro from the summit
  • Sleep in mountain huts
  • A ranger and a professional guide
  • Far fewer people than Kilimanjaro

Itinéraire: Arusha / Moshi – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Momella Gate
