La « voie Whisky » : forêt tropicale, la Lava Tower, le célèbre mur de Barranco et un sommet au lever du soleil – en six jours.
Les détails complets ci-dessous sont en anglais. Posez-nous vos questions en français.
In recent years Machame has overtaken Marangu as the most popular route on Kilimanjaro, and many guides call it the most enjoyable. It is longer and more demanding than Marangu, but the “climb high, sleep low” profile gives you better acclimatisation — and a higher success rate.
In six days you pass through every zone of the mountain: rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and the glaciers of the summit. You scramble up the Barranco Wall, climb to Uhuru Peak from Barafu Camp at sunrise, and come down by a different path through the Mweka forest.
Itinéraire: Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp – Shira 2 – Lava Tower – Barranco – Barafu – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Gate
We meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (or pick you up anywhere in Moshi or Arusha) and drive you to Maridadi Hotel. In the evening your lead guide comes to brief you on the route, check your gear and answer every question.
After a short drive from Moshi and registration at Machame Gate (1,829 m), you climb through thick montane rainforest. The path is steep in places and the trees are full of birds and monkeys. Camp sits where the forest starts to thin.
Out of the forest and into moorland hung with old man's beard moss. You reach a wide plateau with views of Kibo ahead and Mount Meru floating above the clouds to the west.
A rocky climb through alpine desert to lunch beside the Lava Tower (4,630 m), with an optional scramble for the brave. Then down about 600 m into the Great Barranco Valley among giant senecios — climb high, sleep low.
The day starts with the Great Barranco Wall — a scramble with your hands, not a rope climb, and most people's favourite part. You cross the Karanga Valley and climb on to Barafu, a windswept camp with Kibo and Mawenzi above. Early dinner and rest.
A pre-dawn start in the cold and dark, slowly up the scree to Stella Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim as the sun rises, then on to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Photos, a few quiet minutes on the roof of Africa, and the long walk down to Barafu and on to Millennium Camp for a hot meal.
A steep, happy descent through the Mweka rainforest to the gate, where you sign out and receive your summit certificate. We drive you back to Maridadi Hotel in Moshi.
Breakfast, then a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. Not ready to leave? Add a safari or a few days on Zanzibar — we arrange it all.

La liste complèteIt looks dramatic from below, but it is a scramble on a good path where you sometimes use your hands. No ropes are needed and your guides help you at every step. Most climbers say it is the highlight of the route.
The Western Breach and Arrow Glacier route to the summit is available on request for experienced climbers. Ask us and we will tell you honestly if it suits you.
