Africa's highest mountain (5,895 m) and the tallest free-standing mountain on earth. You walk through five climate zones, from rainforest to glacier — no ropes needed.
Kilimanjaro is made of three volcanoes: Kibo, the highest, with Uhuru Peak on its rim; jagged Mawenzi; and Shira, the oldest, which collapsed into a wide plateau. The Chagga people have farmed its green lower slopes for centuries.
The first recorded climb to the top was in October 1889 by Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller, guided by Yohani Kinyala Lauwo from Marangu. The mountain became a national park in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
01Choose from twelve climbs on seven routes, five to nine days on the mountain, with two nights at Maridadi Hotel included.
02Time your summit night with the full moon and walk the crater rim by moonlight.
03No time for the full climb? Walk to Mandara Hut or onto the Shira Plateau in a single day.
04Visit Chagga farms on the lower slopes, roast your own coffee and swim under the Materuni waterfall.
The classic "Coca-Cola" route and the only one with sleeping huts — the shortest, lowest-priced way to Uhuru Peak.
The hut route with an extra night at Horombo to acclimatise — the comfortable way to give yourself a better summit chance.
The "Whiskey route": rainforest, the Lava Tower, the famous Barranco Wall and a sunrise summit — in six days.
The beautiful western route in its shortest form — for strong, fit hikers with little time.
Rainforest, the Shira Plateau and the southern circuit, with an extra night at Karanga — a superb all-round climb.
The route we recommend most: eight unhurried days on the beautiful western side, with the best acclimatisation.
The longest, quietest way around Africa's highest mountain, with views over Kenya and a high summit success rate.
Nine days around the whole mountain — the most time to acclimatise and the best chance of reaching the top.
The quiet northern approach — drier in the rains, gentle underfoot and with wild views towards Kenya.
Rongai at an easier pace: an extra night on the way up for better acclimatisation on the quiet north side.
The shortest, steepest and most direct line up the mountain — wild and quiet, for very strong hikers only.
Start high on the open Shira Plateau, skip the rainforest and join the beautiful southern circuit to the summit.
Share the Machame route with climbers from around the world — a fixed group date and a lower price.
Walk to the roof of Africa by moonlight. Choose your route and month — we time your climb to the full moon.
Walk on Kilimanjaro in a single day: the old Shira caldera, the Shira Cathedral and Kibo in front of you.
A taste of Kilimanjaro: rainforest, colobus monkeys, Mandara Hut and the view from Maundi Crater.
A private budget safari through Tarangire, the Serengeti and the crater, ending at a waterfall on Kilimanjaro.
Elephants, the crater and a waterfall: a private budget safari that ends on the slopes of Kilimanjaro.
Climb to Uhuru Peak on the Machame route, then fly to the white sands of Zanzibar to recover.
Africa's highest summit and its greatest wildlife: the Machame route, then the Serengeti, the crater and Tarangire.
Waterfalls and coffee, the Big Five, the Hadzabe and Datoga — and chimpanzee trekking on Lake Tanganyika.
A rainforest walk to a waterfall pool, then coffee from bean to cup with a Chagga family.
Clear, warm spring water under palm trees — the perfect rest after a climb or a safari.
Close encounters with giraffes, eland and other animals — by day, or overnight in a sanctuary villa.
Cycle all the way around Africa's highest mountain — farms, plains, Maasai villages and a crater lake.
Ride a mountain bike to the roof of Africa — and enjoy a descent of almost 5,000 m. For experienced cyclists.
Five days in the saddle from Kilimanjaro to the edge of the Ngorongoro, through Maasai land and wildlife corridors.
