Mkomazi National Park

Wide, quiet savannah with baobabs and the Pare and Usambara mountains on the horizon — and a sanctuary protecting the rare black rhino.

About the place

Discover Mkomazi National Park

Mkomazi lies along the Kenyan border, next to Kenya's Tsavo West. For years it was a game reserve; in 2008 it became one of Tanzania's newest national parks.

A fenced sanctuary inside the park has helped bring the black rhino back from the edge, and African wild dogs have been returned to the wild here too. You will share the park with very few other vehicles.

What you will see

  • Black Rhino Sanctuary
  • Gerenuk and cheetahs
  • Baobab-dotted plains
