Questions & answers
Everything people ask us before they climb, go on safari or book.
Kilimanjaro & Meru
Do I need climbing experience for Kilimanjaro?
No. Kilimanjaro is a long, high walk, not a rope climb. You need to be fit and healthy and to walk slowly ("pole pole"). About a month of preparation helps a lot: stairs, cardio, hill walks and a little upper-body training. Being mentally ready matters just as much.
Which Kilimanjaro route should I choose?
For most people we suggest Lemosho (7 or 8 days) or Machame. Choose Marangu if you want to sleep in huts, Rongai for a quiet climb in the rainy months, the Northern Circuit for the most time to acclimatise, and Umbwe only if you are a very strong, experienced hiker. Not sure? Try our route finder.
When is the best time to climb?
The driest months — January to mid-March and June to October — are the best. You can climb all year, but April, May and November bring rain.
Who are your mountain guides?
Our guides hold KINAPA licences and are trained as Wilderness First Responders. They carry emergency oxygen and a medical kit and can call for help by satellite phone. Every crew member is paid fair wages as approved by KINAPA and KIATO.
How cold is it at the top?
Very cold: between about −7 °C and −29 °C on summit night, with wind. In the rainforest it can be 20–32 °C. Bring layers and a waterproof shell. Warm gear can be rented in Moshi if you tell us in advance.
Where do I stay before and after the climb?
Every Kilimanjaro climb includes two nights at Maridadi Hotel in Moshi, bed and breakfast — one night before and one night after the climb. Upgrades are possible on request.
Group climbs
Can I join a group climb alone?
Yes — many of our group climbers travel solo. You share the climb with like-minded people and pay the group price.
Is the group climb sure to go ahead?
Yes. Our group departures are guaranteed to run, whatever the size of the group.
How do I hold a seat?
Pick a date and send the short form. Nothing is charged. We confirm your seat and send an invoice for a 30% deposit. The rest is due 30 days before the climb.
What if no group date suits me?
Every route also runs as a private climb on any day you choose. Or tell us your dates — we can open a new group date.
Safari
Are your safaris private?
Yes. Every safari has its own 4x4 vehicle with a pop-up roof and your own professional driver-guide, and starts on the day you choose. Only our camping and group climbs are shared, and only if you choose them.
Can children come on safari?
Yes, families are very welcome on safari and day trips, and children pay a lower price. For Kilimanjaro the park rule is 10 years and older.
When is the best time for the Great Migration?
The herds are in the Serengeti all year. Calving in the south is usually late January to February; the Mara River crossings in the north run from about July to October. Tell us your dates and we choose the right area.
Booking & payment
What is included in the price?
Each trip page lists exactly what is and is not included. Climbs include park fees, the full crew, meals, mats, a toilet tent and two hotel nights in Moshi. Safaris include the private vehicle, guide, park fees, accommodation and meals.
How do I book and pay?
Choose a date and send the booking form — it takes two minutes and nothing is charged. We confirm your dates and send an invoice. You pay a 30% deposit securely online through Pesapal (card or mobile money) or by bank transfer, and the rest 30 days before your trip.
Can you change a trip for me?
Of course. Every trip can be changed — more days, different lodges, a beach extension. Use Plan My Trip or send us a WhatsApp message.
Do you pick up from the airport?
Yes. We pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha — and back again at the end of your trip. Airport transfers are included in our climbs and most safaris.
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Most visitors need a visa. You can apply online on the official Tanzania e-visa website before you travel. Check the current rules for your passport before you book flights.
Can I get a PDF itinerary?
Yes. Every trip page has a "Download PDF itinerary" button with the full day-by-day plan, prices and what is included. We also send a personal PDF plan with every quote.
